We're Going on a Field Trip

We wanted to let everyone know that after this post, we will not post again until Friday.  We are going on a field trip to visit several Mayan archaeological sites.  We will be gone three days and two nights.  Sara will have her kindle; but, I am not taking my laptop, so, no blogging.

Today we had a cultural experience of the non-fine arts variety.  We got up this morning and showered.  The water was nice and hot.  I cooked french toast on the gas range without any problem.  Then, a little while later Susanna who rents the other unit knocked on our door and told us that the gas was out, so no more hot water or cooking; we share a common gas tank.  She said she had already woken up the boys (it was ten-thirty!) and told them about it.  It seemed to be a surprise to them; but, they said they would get right on the gas company to bring out a new tank; however, there could be a small problema, because today is a holiday of some sort.   Banks and some businesses are closed.

Let's see.  We are leaving tomorrow morning at seven a.m. on our field trip.  We planned on heating the leftover spaghetti I made for dinner tonight.  No gas!  I went to talk to the boys, too!  They said, no problem; they had talked to the gas company and gas would be sent.  So we went about our activities for the day.  When we got back mid-afternoon, I called to the boys to see if the gas had been delivered.  Oh!  We're not sure.  Oh!  It hasn't been yet.  Let me call again.

A little later, Damian came to our door, called the gas company a bad word in Spanish some of you may know, and said no delivery until tomorrow morning!

Susanna was even more irritated than we were.  She told the boys to at least put their microwave out in a common area where we all could use it.

So, in the end, we heated our plates of spaghetti in the microwave for dinner, and heated some water in the microwave to wash the dishes.  Sara just heated some more water in a bowl for a sponge-bath tonight instead of a cold shower in the morning.  She said I can heat some more water in the microwave for her to wash her hair tomorrow morning before we leave.

Me?  I think I will just wait until tomorrow night and hope the place we will be staying in the Lacandon jungle has hot showers.  Just call me one of the muchachos.

Here is a picture I took today while sitting on a bench in the plaza.
