Not Everyday Can Be Perfect

It is overcast with an occasional, very light mist; and, Sara and I are both under the weather.  I have a mild cold and Sara has something similar.  I came down with my cold two days ago and Sara started feeling a little achy yesterday.  She probably caught her virus from me.  Sleeping together in our small double bed, we are bound to share everything, except the covers.  Each of us thinks the other is hogging the blanket.

So, we are taking it easy for a couple days.  Yesterday we just went out once, to the post office and then sat in the main plaza for a while.  Today we are only going out to do some grocery shopping.  This morning I went to the mercado and bought a chicken which Sara is stewing.  There is nothing like chicken soup when you don't feel well.

In the market there are a dozen or more stands selling fresh-killing-this-morning chickens.  At some stalls the chickens still had their necks and heads on, hanging over the front edge of the stand.  I opted for a more discrete approach.  I don't necessarily want my dinner looking me in the eye.  The senorita had me select the chicken I wanted; she then cut it into pieces for me.  As she was putting it into a plastic bag she asked if I wanted a couple of chicken feet from the bowl next to her thrown in for free.  I thought of Sara's reaction, and decided to pass on them.

Later

We just got back from walking up to the grocery store across from the mercado.  We were running low on paper products and packaged goods.   Now back home, Sara is resting and reading a book on her Kindle.  I will read my book for a while, too.  We will not go out again today.

Even though it is still overcast and we don't feel great, it's alright.  This is all part of why we wanted to be here a whole month.  We are not really on vacation.  Okay, we are; but, we aren't.  What we are really doing is living abroad for a month.  On a vacation, a few inclement days or catching a cold can consume a large percentage of the entire time and put a real damper on the holiday.  Living here for a month, we fully expected to have days we would not "do anything."  There are still things we want to do, and places we want to see, and an excursion we will take away from San Cristobal for three days; but, we will just do them a little later.  All is still good; and, if I have to have a cold, I would rather be sitting here in our casita in San Cristobal than sitting at home watching Oprah.

Hey!  The sun is trying to break through!  Wait, it didn't.
